In the high deserts of Arizona, where the
sands whisper ancient secrets and the stars shine with otherworldly wisdom (seriously, the ufos are omg!), I found solace and inspiration from the hustle and bustle of city life. Though far from the sultry streets of New Orleans, the magick of my beloved city still flows through my veins, and continues to guide me on my journey of creativity and spiritual discovery.
With a background in art, music, psychology, and anthropology, I had always danced between the worlds of imagination and reality, magick and science. But when my son was just three years old, I injured my back in a freak accident. This left me unable to continue my work as a mental health therapist. I felt lost and adrift in a sea of uncertainty. I was a single mom, after all, and was responsible for the wellbeing of my child. What was I going to do? How was I going
to make a living while healing? I had no idea how long my recovery was going to take. I had to come up with something fast.
Turning to the spirits for guidance, I called upon Papa Legba, the guardian of the crossroads and opener of the ways, to show me a new path
forward. With his wise and gentle guidance, I found the courage to explore new opportunities for work and creativity. Leaving a world of 9 to 5 meant breaking the mental hold society had on me. I had believed I was dependent upon working for someone else, and without them, I would not be able to make it.
It was as if I woke up from a bad dream. I realized this was a lie. I had choices. Voudou is an empowering tradition and not one that makes its adherents believe themselves dependent upon outside sources for anything. It teaches we are cocreators of our own lives, it gives us tools for reaching goals and solving problems. And the spirits, saints, and angels are always there to help us when we need guidance and direction.
As I lay curled up in a ball of pain, I searched for inspiration in the vast new internet landscape, I stumbled upon an unexpected source of potential: voodoo dolls. A folk art form I was already familiar with, I felt a spark of inspiration ignite within me. With Papa Legba's blessing, I crafted three
dolls in his likeness and listed them for sale online.
To my delight, the dolls sold almost immediately, and requests for more poured in from eager buyers. Recognizing the hand of fate at work, I embraced my newfound calling and launched Flea Market Fairy, my online shop
for voodoo dolls and mystical treasures. This was back in 2004.
Driven by my passion and guided by Papa Legba's wisdom, my business flourished. I expanded my product line, offering a piece of New Orleans magick to the world.
In 2013, I took another bold step forward and opened Creole Moon, a sanctuary of magick and spirituality amidst the desert sands. With Papa Legba's blessings, my business grew and thrived as a spiritual lifestyle brand that became a beacon of light for seekers of spiritual guidance and those wanting to enhance
their lives with magick.
Throughout my journey, I shared my knowledge and experience with others through Crossroads University, my highly successful website where I teach about the spiritual traditions of my culture of origin. There, I offer courses on Papa Legba and
other aspects of New Orleans Voudou, empowering others to achieve success and spiritual fulfillment like I have.
You too can access Papa Legba to help you with whatever challenges you may be facing in life. But it is important to learn how to do so correctly. By
enrolling in the Papa Legba Master Class at Crossroads University, you'll gain access to invaluable insights into Papa Legba's origins, how to develop a relationship with him, and how to safely serve him as an uninitiated practitioner. You'll learn how to petition him as the Black Man at the crossroads and ask for whatever you need, all while gaining a deeper understanding of who Papa Legba truly is, beyond the media's portrayal.
Though the landscape may have changed, the spirit of New Orleans lives on within me, infusing every aspect of my life and work. And as the winds of change continue to blow through the desert skies, I stand at the crossroads, ready to embrace whatever adventures lie ahead, knowing that with Papa Legba by my side and the magick of
New Orleans in my heart, anything is possible.
